Trader mental math
A trader needed quick calculations to price things in the past. I don't know how much this is true for trading now though but it is still a good way to sift through and find the people with passion. A rare number of people would have the innate ability to pass those exams but almost anyone could study and practice the mental math necessary. I recently took the flow traders mental math test (75Q in 10 mins). I passed through that math test and I have an aptitude test scheduled for this Friday. The mail I received says this test will contain mental math test, sequences, verbal analogies, syllogisms. Anyone has taken this test and can Mental math should be distinguished from the memorization of math facts such as multiplication tables. A foundation of memorized answers to simple math problems will make mental math easier, but performing maths in your head requires both memorized facts and the manipulation of numbers and operations to solve problems. Being a prop trader requires extremely fast thinking, and quickly answering mental math questions such as 84*19 is a good indication of whether or not an applicant can successfully solve problems under pressure. Thus, when I am interviewing candidates, I always ask a few mental math questions.
