The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 7 August 2019 slashed the repo rate by 35 basis points (bps) after which the repo rate stands at 5.40%. The bank rate has also been cut down which takes the current figure to 5.65%. Charged on: The bank rate is the rate of interest charged by the apex bank by the commercial banks for lending the loan whereas Repo Rate is the interest rate charged on the repurchase of securities sold by the commercial banks.
